Spring 2010 Anime Watch List

by 7 on March 22, 2010

Oh hi! I’m still alive. Always have been…at least when considering the regular pace this blog goes by.  I haven’t gone anywhere really. I was just preoccupied with higher priorities…insane exams, a much deserved break spent entirely on playing video games, and last but not the least, a haphazard effort to join a mascot drawing contest.

Unneeded crap aside, Spring season brings a bountiful selection of shows. Of course, information and all images are courtesy of chartfag.

As usual, I’ve tried to rank my priorities in an effort to maximize the number of shows I can watch given my time constraints while minimizing  potential series that might end up on my dropped list. I’m trying to reach 200+ completed series by the end of the year after all. Hopefully, by the end of the season, I would have completed at least 10 of these shows. Of course, shows whose prequels I haven’t watched along with those that involve sports as well as childhood fantasies are automatically taken off the list.

So here goes…

Definite Watchability

Angel Beats
http://www.angelbeats.jp/
First up is the one of the few reasons why Little Busters won’t be airing this year. When we’re supposed to get a baseball-loving, feline-friendly bunch students, we instead get a bunch of youngsters with weapons and what-nots. I SIMPLY LIKE IT! Of course, the fact that Key is involved only makes me more interested.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/maidsama/index-j.html
Ah yes, the manga-turned anime that has  most of the fangirls around me are talking about. While I’m not really into romance at the moment, since the series itself also involves some comedy, I guess it won’t hurt to see whether it’s worth watching ;though to be honest, I really hope it is.

K-ON!!
http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/k-on/
I had fun watching the first season so it only makes logical sense that I watch the sequel. Expectations? Only weekly doses of light entertainment along with a few chuckles or two, unlike haters out there…

Kiss x Sis
http://kc.kodansha.co.jp/kiss_sis/
Definitely my guilty pleasure of the season. One guy with twin step-sisters (a ‘step’ being a measure of how close it is to a full-fledged incest). I say Ménage à trois! Is there anything not to like about?!

B Gata H Kei
http://www.bgata-hkei.com/
So a virgin who wants to get laid at least by a hundred different people. And oh yea, the virgin is a girl……HOLY SHIT! This so rightfully wrong in a hundred ways.

High Likelihood Watchability

Mayoi Neko Overun!
http://www.patisserie-straycats.com/
For Pete’s sakes, what is with these people and their cat fetishes? Not that I would mind since cats have proven themselves a valuable ingredient for a successful series time and time again (See Nyan Koi).

Yutori-chan
http://yutori-chan.jp/
From what I’ve been hearing about, this is supposed to be a representation, if not a mockery, of three distinct generations in Japan…through use of lolis little girls! This should be fun..

Curiosity Satisfiers

Heroman
http://gangan.square-enix.co.jp/introduction/heroman/
Amidst all the information about Heroman, the only thing that caught my eye was ‘Stan Lee.’ Great…another instance of Western meddling. Two things can happen: (1) either we’ll have ourselves a successful culmination of two distinct mediums or (2) a failed attempt that has a potential to leave a bitter aftertaste for a long time.
House of Five Leaves
http://www.goyou-anime.jp/
I’d say, it’s about goddamn time we have another prominent sword-slashing series to add to the watch list. I’m not so sure whether I’ll stick around to see this series to the end. The premise doesn’t seem to be interesting enough to last for the whole season…

Working!!
http://www.wagnaria.com/
Despite its early release, I have not watched this series yet though, it doesn’t help that I’m already hearing a lot of negative receptions. Then again, Working!! falls onto the Slice of Life genre where tolerance is usually low.

Err….

Yojo-han Shinwa Taikei
http://noitamina.tv/yojouhan/
Nothing so special about a series about some college student’s life…

Arakawa Under The Bridge
http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/arakawa_ub/
Woah, star-headed dude! Just add romance and we get ourselves the potential WTF series of the season!

Hee. I love it when Stan Lee tries to be cool. First by giving hippster lingo to Mary Jane in 60s era Spiderman and now by trying to make animes and mangas. It’s either annoying or adorable. Possiably both.

I’m heistented about Air Beats, but it does look interesting. I hope it lives up to the hype for the people who are really looking forward to it.

The only anime i have watched in there is Kaichou wa maid-sama
the manga was pretty good, especially with the whole mystery factor that Usui’s past and leading to an future/current/complicated situation/chain of situations.
The first episode was meh..the shapes and colours were a bit off and misaki’s voice is a bit weird.
That could be because of the manga disease, but it is heading off in a good direction!
Btw! Awesome blog :D *adds to blogroll*
