Harem-Worthy Girls of 2009

The year 2009 was full of interesting shows as well as interesting girls. Now that 2009 has already expired, I somewhat feel obliged to patronize female characters who I thought would fit my idea of a harem perfectly – that is, if I were to have a 2D harem. Yes, that’s right…a harem for crying out loud. So forget you people whose happiness can easily be measured with one measly ‘waifu’ whom you seem to discard frequently whenever your hormones are suddenly aroused by a whole new female contender.

Anyway, do note that this should not be mistaken as a list of favorite female characters of the year. This is a Harem-worthy list; which means favoritism and/or fondness are insufficient by themselves.

And so without further adieu…I present to you the following.

Akiyama Mio (K-ON)

Oh SHIT!!!!! FLAME WALL ON!!!! I can explain! While Mio’s probably hated by a significant number of people because of masses of avid fags fans who relentlessly and shamelessly promote their fandom and unknowingly force it onto other people, Mio isn’t that all bad…in fact, take away the faggotry caused by these people and she becomes a very interesting person. Of course she isn’t my favorite of the four; but when it comes to who is the most fitting to serve in a harem, Mio trumps all. It’s hard to explain why but perhaps that portrayal of hers can paint a better picture in your head.

Sharon Reinsworth (Pandora Hearts)

Next up is probably one of the girls whose name, whenever mentioned to the people I interact with, always results in replies such as ‘Who?’ or ‘What?’ or even ‘Who’s that?’ Nevertheless, Sharon is a typical ojou-sama. As such, she is very classy, not to mention kind as well as caring. But what makes her an ideal harem candidate is her dedication to be of some used to her makeshift brother, Break. To put it simply, a person of high status who’s willing to put her neck on the line for someone she cares about is ay okay in my book.

Alicia Melchiot (Valkyria Chronicles)

Taken from http://tinyurl.com/ybzhalc

No matter how you put it, a harem is by all means a group of people. That said, certain chaos is inevitable. Fortunately, my next candidate is one that is capable of quelling off any disorder that may arise. The best part is, she can do so without losing her touch as a girl. Alicia can play hard-to-get at times but treat her how a girl should be treated respectfully and you’ll get a pleasant response. But put her on the spot to piss her off and you might get yelled at or worse..annihilated. Such balance of deadliness and grace is all in all what makes her ideal for this harem of mine.

Kataoka Yuuki (Saki)

Those of you who know of me should’ve seen this coming. I love the Tacos Girl. She’s hyperactive, she’s all over the place, and she brightens up the atmosphere whenever her comrades are feeling down. She also happens to be fairly good at Mahjong (just add Tacos and East Round). But that can’t be all can it? Of course not. I’m not sure if anyone else noticed but she seems to try so hard to impress the sole male member in their mahjong club. For any other case, this might seem irrelevant but since we’re talking about harem-worthiness, showing effort  is definitely a plus. With this, Yuuki earns herself a rightful place.

Sengoku Nadeko (Bakemonogatari)

Would you strip naked in front of people without hesitation so that they can better assess the monstrous anomaly that’s taken possession of your body? Nadeko would and Nadeko did. Forget about how she’s very cute and all (I sure hope everyone knows what) but instead focus on her unparalleled trust. A harem needs mutual trust between its girls and its harem-lead. Nadeko possesses just that. Need I say more?

Hakko (Canaan)

Ah the ever gorgeous Hakko and her outrageous acts. I’ve already mentioned this in a previous post but considering how jaw-dropping her last actions were, they’re worth mentioning again. Normally, people would freak out at the idea of getting your dead partner laid. I call this devotion and an unparalleled act of love. That said, there should be no objections as to why a character like her deserves a place in a harem. Heck…at least someone will care for me in the afterlife should I die from getting overwhelmed by girls.

Nymph (Sora no Otoshimono)

At first, Nymph appears to be more than a bitch (a little off being a tsundere). However, I later find out that her views towards others are actually reflections of the maltreatment she receives from her angelic masters. Take away all of the bad influence and what you get is a caring individual who at the same time wants to be cared for. The fact that her nature is that of an Angelroid who have unfathomable capabilities and whose sole drive is to server their masters well also helps.

Kirishima Akari and Kotone (Nyan Koi)

Bless the Fall 2009 season for these wonderful twins. They’re the reason why I’ve laid my eyes on Nyan Koi. If it weren’t for them, I would’ve missed out an a very entertaining series. That aside what I like so much about these two are their daily antics that never gets old: the fact that they’re seemingly normal schoolgirls and daughters of a local monk by day while being super-powered exorcists by night. But what makes them harem-worthy is not their traits as twins but is instead as individuals:  Kotone’s amusing stalking prowess and sadistic nature as well as Akari’s tsundere antics  just to name a few.

Shiina Minatsu and Mafuyu (Seitokai no Ichizon)

Last but not the least and probably my favorites are the sisters, Minatsu and Mafuyu. We all know that each and every one of them is awesome in their own special way. On one hand, we have the self-declared tsundere Minatsu whose d athletic capabilities as well as her interests in yuri make her more of a tomboy if anything. On the other hand, we have Minatsu’s opposite, Mafuyu (even their names play a reference to opposites; Minatsu for summer and Mafuyu for winter). Whereas Minatsu is somewhat extroverted, Minatsu is somewhat reserved…yet she puts people who call themselves pro-gamers to shame with through game walkthroughs that she diligently writes. But what about harem-wise? Surely these alone won’t be sufficient, right? Well of course not…at least not under other circumstances but if we consider the fact that they are already in a harem, it would be a completely different story. What better harem candidates are there than the ones who are already in one?

Godammit..I’ve been trying to finish this list for quite some time now – two weeks to be exact. While I had lots of fun making this list, I also happened to have a lot of frustration since there’s a lot of girls to like about in a year and trying to pick them one by one to see who is worthy for this list is quite a pain. I guess that just tells you harems are srsbsns.
