First of all, I would like to express my praise to the creators of K-ON! for being F*CKING GENIUSES!
Just thinking about how the Ritsu, Tsumugi and Mio were able to somehow drag the helpless Yui along their seemingly hopeless club is so mind-boggling, it almost gives me the chills! I mean, we start with Yui who doesn’t really look promising as a lead guitarist (at least not as we’ve seen on the promo pics anyway). Considering this in addition to the fact that the she didn’t become aware of the music club until the latter half of the episode, I was on a thinking train trying to figure out how they’ll connect the dots from “Yui” to “Light Music Club” in the most seamless manner possible. And goddamn, K-ON! actually pulled it off; they managed to go from one context to the next as such that I didn’t even realize Yui’s (unofficial) enlistment to the band until much later! Nice one, Kyo-Ani.
So let’s head over to the loli moe girls. Just as expected from Kyo-Ani, the girls themselves are a colorful bunch of characters! So, just for a quick rundown…we have Yui as the clumsy childish air-head who’s supposed to be the main protagonist; Ritsu who seems to be the prominent drama queen at the moment; Tsumugi whose classy style reflects even on her choice of instrument…the keyboard/piano; and finally, the seemingly most mature of them all (as well everybody’s apparent favorite), Mio. With a bunch as exciting as this, there’s no telling what will they be up to in the upcoming episodes! So yes, I am quite amused. I’ll be even more amused if I get the same feel I had while watching Suzuiya perform ‘God Knows’ when these girls ever get organized enough for a band. Now that’s something to look forward to!
It wax actually a Deux Ex Machina-drugged drink that made Yui join
As far as the plot goes, all that was ever accomplished was the club’s salvation through Yui’s admittance to the Light Music Club. There’s nothing really else to say, which is okay since it’s only the first episode. If there’s anything worth mentioning, it’s the different ways the pre-existing club members were trying so hard to bribe Yui to join…talk about a high lolz factor.
On another note, I felt sort of nostalgic about this series. I mean, come on…a nearly failed school club, a clumsy moe protagonist, and a Kyo-Ani production?! If you have no idea what I’m referring to, I suggest you buy yourself a trout and slap yourself with it.
And oh yea, the OP and ED was certainly moe-licious (especially the ED).

I felt Lucky Star and Kannagi art vibes, CLANNAD story vibes, and flat-out awesome K-ON! vibes.
I love this series.
Yui is moe.
I have to disagree with your statement about Mio being the favorite of them all. XD So far, 4 bloggers watch this and 2/4 are Yui fans and 2/4 are Mio fans. It’s pretty split to me. ^^ Though, I feel sorry for the other two that are not getting nearly as much love.
I am enjoying this anime so far and the only anime I ever enjoyed from KyoAni is Haruhi Suzumiya (to me the others are overhyped). Hopefully, it won’t be too Lucky Star-ish. I know some people want it to be that way but if it does, I don’t think I can watch it all the way through, which is a shame since I love the first episode.
By the way, I’m the 1/2 Mio fan. XD Go Mio!
Hmm…I feel kinda left out, given my favourite character is Ritsu >_>
But yeah, given how well Kyo-Ani did that God Knows scene from Haruhi, stands to reason that they might as well play to their strengths
Tsugami would be the most popular if everyone wasn’t distracted by her eyebrows.
That aside, K-ON! is pretty amusing. It’s interesting enough that I want to watch the next episode.
That’s not a high five! That’s a hail H*tler pose! >_<
[But it's oh so cute~]
Haha, you sound so thrilled. xD
I wasn’t even half aware of how she got to the music club…oh wait, she saw a flier and decided to go. Hmm. Ok, that saves time so it works. lol
Heh, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mio was the next Kagami. Not personality-wise or anything. Just popularity. Though whether Mio is going to come to the level where Kagami is, I’m not sure though (guess it’ll have to all be determined by SaiMoe).
…lol What is it with you and drinks? xD;
And you forgot the cake. There must have been something in the cake, too.
Huh…the only thing I felt nostalgic about was the promo pic (made her look so much like Nagisa) but now I think she looks like Hayate from Nanoha. :/
Was there even a story here? I was too distracted by all the moe flying around~
Well, for K-On! after all my fambling now all I can say is that moe + music = GOLD! This show is going to be successful even if it never even gets to a performance.
With 13 episodes though, I don’t really expect a performance necessarily anyway. I’ll just be satisfied with moe-ness for now. If they don’t get good enough before it’s over we’ll get another season anyway (that will come out in 2 years lol).
@fangzhao: Yes, Yui is indeed Moe
@Minnie: And that’s why I said “everybody’s apparent favorite. ^_^
@Snark: Awww, don’t feel left out. I like all four girls equally. And yes, I’m expecting to have the get the same feel from ‘God Knows.’
@warriorhope: I tried to be nice and forced myself to ignore the fact about her eyebrows T_T.
@53RG10: LOL. I thought you were gonna say High Four.
@Xiao Jie: Not thrilled,
arousedjust excited.I think it was because of the ED Mio’s getting so much attention. Then again, that’s just my opinion.
Cake? Nah…, it would be too obvious, or is it?
Yes, when I referred to Nostalgia, I was hoping for Clannad automatically register in your heads. Since you mentioned Nagisa, then you won’t get a trout slap. ^_^
@FuyuMaiden: Yes Fuyu, there really was a story. If you didn’t fall instantly for the moeness, then you’ll probably see ^_^. Wtf am I saying, everybody but me is completely under the Moe spell.
I would have to say I am SOOO a Yui fan. Her personalty and her cluelessness warmed my heart. I love her!!
