Sunrise drops the nuke – Gundam 00 might be affected?

Thanks to Panzer of Team Blue for leading me to Sankaku Complex and Hey Say Anime for making me realize how extensive the situation is.

This is what they said…

Regarding the use of images of Sunrise products on the Internet:

On the Internet, even when not for commercial gain, or on a personal homepage, you may not use them.

We receive enquiries about permission such as “It’s not for profit” or “It’s a personal homepage”; even in these cases you can’t use them. On the Internet, even personal use constitutes “reproduction and distribution”, thus you cannot use any such images.

On our ISP we offer 5mb user homepages, wherein you may publish what you have made yourself.

Exceptions:

Regarding pictures or writing made yourself:

Even with pictures or writing made yourself, when incorporating Sunrise products they must not be distributed on the Internet.

This is what it means…

Absolutely no fanart and/or screencaps from any of their shows except on their shitty 5mb space.

This is what I have to say…

ZOMG!!!!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!?!

Talk about having a tough luck finding about the news right after I posted something about G00.

I honestly can’t imagine how they can do that under the pretense of preventing copyright infringement. There has to be an ulterior motive. For one thing, I don’t think they would’ve put a lot of effort searching clauses in the law just so they can promote the banning of farnart and screencaps. Second, if their actions are really for the sake of preventing copyright infringement, why are they only attacking the web? Piracy occurs out of the web too, you know; they should know that better than anyone.

I don’t know why but I have a feeling they are using this flame starter to gain the attention of the masses and promote their products.

Haaaa? It’s the biggest WTF of this month, I think. Sunrise is the best studios, if I’m not wrong they produced Steamboy. But I’m not sure, does it affect e.g. Soul Eater or Bounen no Xamdou?

Kaioshin Sama January 29, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Sunrise did not actually send any cease and desist letter out, only Lantis did. Sankaku Complex confused the truth of the matter by quoting a comment left on the original source for it’s story and making it sound like they were in on Lantis campaign too.

That copyright policy has been on their site for ages and is absolutely nothing new so Gundam 00 is no more affected by it today then it was when the first season started. I repeat, Sunrise has not sent out a cease and desist letter, only Lantis has so only Lantis shows might be affected.

Oh and that screencap is of a Lantis copyrighted anime. Yep they helped with Lucky Star’s music. That actually might be affected if Lantis decides to go full throttle. I wish people would actually be focusing on Lantis instead of Sunrise since they are actually the ones who are on the warpath in this case.

@Gargron: Biggest WTF moement indeed.

@Kaioshin Sama: Gundam 00 is safe? That’s a relief. Nevertheless, be it Sunrise or Lantis, I still find this whole commotion a false pretense of an attempt to stop infringement.

As for the screencap on the frontpage…I thought Lantis only had rights to the Lucky Star songs and Lucky Star manga…not the anime itself. At this point, I could really care less…if the screencap really is an example of infringement, let them come here and personally tell me to remove it.

It’s possible that it could be for gain that they have dropped us with such news, but I would imagine that besides the press news, it would cause negative effects. People interested in the series wouldn’t have nearly as much reviews and such from the net and thus wouldn’t have a reason to watch it in the first place.
In general, everything that revolves around the idea is just stupid :P

The picture portrays your reaction very well :P

Looks like many people were not amused…

@gordon: What?! Was this supposed to be some kind of joke?!

@Panther: You will always be Panzer to me! Lolz at these two bozo companies too

@lostty: Oh dang…I don’t know what to think anymore..

@Kitsune: Yep! I certainly wasn’t amused.
